A miss means Signl could not confirm a working email for that person, so nothing was delivered and nothing was charged. It is not an error in your setup. Verification checks that the mailbox genuinely accepts mail, and some people simply have no discoverable, verifiable address.
Why it happens
- The person is at a company with a strict or unusual mail configuration
- They are recently hired or recently departed and records disagree
- The company is very small or very new, with thin public data
- The role you asked for does not exist at that company
What to try next
Ask for a different person at the same company. Where a VP of Sales cannot be verified, a head of revenue or a founder often can, especially at smaller companies.
Drop an over-specific title. Asking for an exact job title searches for that role specifically. Removing it lets Signl return the best-ranked decision-maker instead, which usually has a higher hit rate.
Try a company with stronger signals. Companies that recently raised or are actively hiring tend to have better-maintained public records.
What we do not do
We never return a guessed address to make the attempt look successful. An address assembled from a naming pattern is not verified, and sending to it risks a bounce that counts against your domain reputation. A miss that costs you nothing is a better outcome than a bounce that costs you deliverability.
