Define your ICP

Your ideal customer profile scores every search, weekly drop and Loop automatically. It is the highest-leverage setup step.

Updated Aug 20, 2026

Your ideal customer profile tells Signl who you sell to: industries, headcount range, geographies, funding stages and the signals you care about. Save it once in the dashboard and every search, weekly drop and Loop is scored against it automatically, with no extra prompting.

What to put in it

Describe the customers you actually close, not the widest market you could theoretically serve. A narrow, honest profile produces a better-ranked list than an aspirational one.

  • Industries you sell into, more than one if that is genuinely true
  • Headcount range where your product fits
  • Geographies you can actually serve and sell to
  • Funding stages that match your price point
  • Signals that indicate readiness in your market

Why it matters more than filters

A filter is a hard boundary: it removes companies. A profile is a ranking: it orders them. With an ICP saved, a search for "fintech companies hiring sales roles" returns the same set of companies as before, but ordered so the ones that look like your best customers come first.

Because the profile is stored on your account rather than in a prompt, it also applies to results you did not ask for directly, like the weekly drop and every Loop run.

Where to set it

Open ICP in the dashboard. Saving a profile for the first time also earns credits, listed in earn your free credits.

Common questions

Do I have to define an ICP to use Signl?

No. Search works without one and falls back to a sensible default. But an ICP is what makes results ranked for your business rather than merely matching your filters, and it applies to every search, weekly drop and Loop without you prompting for it again.

Can I change it later?

Yes, at any time from the ICP screen in the dashboard. Changes apply to future searches, weekly drops and Loop runs immediately. You can also clear it entirely and go back to the default scoring.
